New dining parklets have popped up in downtown Grand Junction. Take a look at the new dining parklets which will allow restaurants to have additional seating.

Something new has appeared in downtown Grand Junction and it\’s not the face masks on the statues. Downtown Grand Junction now has dining parklets.

These dining parklets resemble an extended patio, with the barrier made up of wood and metal or plastic. The new dining parklets are throughout downtown Grand Junction.

11 Grand Junction Businesses Everyone Misses

Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard

It\’s funny that two restaurants from the exact same location made my top 11 list of Grand Junction businesses I miss. Located right across the street from the VA Medical Center, Good Times knew how to do burgers and frozen custard as good as anybody, and better than most. I didn\’t go there super-often, but, now I wish that I had.

Sutherlands

This one hurt bad. After 102 years in business, Sutherlands closed their doors in 2019. It\’s something you might have expected in 2020, the year where nothing is normal. Sutherlands was a local favorite for so many years, and, boy, do I ever miss it.

Payless Shoe Source

There was a day when Payless Shoes was extremely popular. After all, who doesn\’t want to pay less? I love to buy clothes and shoes, and with Payless gone, there\’s one less place for me to shop for shoes. Now, I have to pay more – not less. I miss Payless.

Naggy McGees Irish Pub

I was pretty shocked when Naggy\’s closed down. It always seemed like a popular spot that people really loved. Maybe there just weren\’t enough people who loved it. The food was always good, and folks loved to gather there for a drink or two with friends. I was only an occasional visitor- and I loved their fish and chips – but I\’m sad Naggy\’s is gone.

Kmart

We all saw the decline of Kmart coming, but, in better days, Kmart provided us with so many great shopping experiences. I remember as a kid walking 2 blocks from my grandma\’s house in Denver to check out the toy section at Kmart. Grand Junction was lucky to have Kmart for so many years on North Avenue. I wish I would have appreciated it a little bit more when it was here.

Hastings Books, Music, & Video

Hastings was a Grand Junction favorite for so many years, and whenever the question comes up about what businesses we miss, it\’s always on the list. Whether you wanted books, movies or music, Hastings was THE place in town. If video killed the radio star, it\’s possible the internet killed the music store.

Taco Time

At some point after Good Times Burgers, there was Taco Time on the corner of North Avenue and 23rd. I remember how excited I was when Taco Time came to Grand Junction, giving us two western Colorado locations – the other one being in Delta. It was great food for sure, but maybe it was too pricey for fast food. Being drive-thru only probably hurt a little as well, and though it\’s been gone for a few years, I still wish I had driven thru much more often.

Blue Moose BBQ & Grill

My guess is most people in Grand Junction never experience the Blue Moose. I thought the food was excellent, though I didn\’t go there often. It\’s not the first new restaurant to fail at that location on North Avenue and it certainly wasn\’t the last. I was sad to see the Blue Moose go. It was decent food and the best name for a restaurant -ever!

Black Jack Pizza

I wonder how many people remember Black Jack Pizza on North Avenue. I loved Black Jack Pizza and it was our go-to pizza when I first moved to town in 2002. When it closed for good I thought I could move on easily, but it has been far from easy. Losing Black Jack Pizza was like losing that old girl friend you just never quite got over.

Barney\’s Southwest BBQ

I love BBQ and I was so excited when Barney\’s came to town. I kept saying I would go – after the crowds died down. I wanted to go, but, sadly, I never did. Barney came and went so quickly, leaving me with the regret of never even giving it a try. I\’m sorry, Barney!

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Location, location, location. It\’s true about real estate and it\’s true about doughnuts. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are out of this world good and people loved them, but way out by Mesa Mall just didn\’t seem to be the best spot. You\’re not going to accidentally drive by and pop in for a hot one. It pretty much has to be a destination, and unfortunately, that destination was always way out of the way. My love for Krispy Kreme is endless, eternal, and everlasting. I should have eaten more.
